A dryer is a mechanical device that allows the material to be wetted by heating (generally refers to moisture or other volatile liquid components) to escape, in order to obtain a solid material with a specified moisture content.


The drying process needs to consume a large amount of heat, in order to save energy, suspension or solution of some high moisture content of material, containing solid matter generally after mechanical dewatering or heating evaporation, and then in the dryer drying, to get dry solid.

The purpose of drying is to require the use of materials or the need for further processing. Such as wood in the production of wood, wood before drying can prevent the deformation of product, ceramic blank in the dry before calcination can prevent finished cracking. In addition the dried material is also convenient for transportation and storage, such as harvesting grain drying to a moisture content below, to prevent mildew. Because natural drying can not meet the needs of production and development, various mechanical dryer is more and more widely used.

In the process of drying, the heat and mass (moisture content) are needed to ensure that the surface moisture content of the material is higher than that of the wet steam in the outer space, which ensures the heat source temperature is higher than the material temperature.

The heat from the heat source in a variety of ways to wet materials, the material surface moisture vaporization and escape into outer space, thus the moisture content difference in the material surface and internal. Internal wet to surface diffusion and vaporization, so that the material moisture content is continuously reduced, and gradually complete the overall material drying.

The drying rate of the material depends on the rate of vaporization of the surface and the diffusion rate of the internal moisture. The drying rate is usually dry early by surface vaporization rate control; then, as long as the same drying conditions, the drying rate and the surface temperature of the material is stable, this stage is called the stage of constant rate of drying; when the moisture content decreased to a certain extent, the internal moisture to reduce the surface diffusion rate, and less than the surface the vaporization rate, drying rate mainly by internal diffusion rate, and decreased with the moisture content continuously decreased, this phase is called the drying phase.
